Clutter is a serious problem for business owners. It can cause loss of productivity, lost revenue, and even legal liability. The good news is that there are ways to combat clutter without breaking the bank.

The streamline thoughts is a term that means to simplify your business. There are 5 ways to streamline your business, which include creating an action plan, setting up systems, and using tools.

Cyber week is over, Black Friday is over, and with it, some amazing bargains. It may be gift-giving season and year-end shopping season, but do you know what you really need?

Have you considered what you already have and if you have too much?

My wife and I cleaned our house of unnecessary junk this past Black Friday, rather than succumbing to the media frenzy of purchase, buy, buy. We overfilled our recycling bin and hauled over a dozen bags to our local donation center.

We also found several perfectly fine household goods buried among the clutter—it was like Christmas morning—and understood how we might turn our trash room into a functioning home office.

Not only can you do this at home, but you can also do it at your place of business. Here are five ideas for decluttering and streamlining your company.

1. Use software to keep track of your customers.

Do you still shuffle papers and rummage through emails and messages for information about clients and leads?

CRM software may help you arrange your client information into an easy-to-search and manage database, allowing you to monitor sales success down to the individual customer level.

Most small company owners don’t realize how much business they’re losing unless they use CRM software to achieve their full client acquisition and retention potential, according to Gene Marks, a prominent customer relationship management expert.

There are many CRM software options available for companies of all sizes, including Insightly’s free basic CRM service.

2. Make a list of everything you have.

Have you ever discovered in your house a very expired jar of food that you would never give to your family? It’s a good reminder to check through your fridge and pantry on a regular basis to get rid of any damaged food.

Disposing of your company’s obsolete goods has worth as well. Do you have goods at the back of your shop or warehouse that is never utilized or sold? Examine your inventory to determine if there are any obsolete goods or materials that may be eliminated to free up storage space.

Going through your office closet and donating items that are no longer required may be an easy way to organize. You may have some older stock that you believe will be in demand at some point in the future, but ask yourself whether the effort and money it will take to handle it is really worth it.

Take some time to check if you can discover the appropriate inventory management software for your company if you haven’t already.

3. Determine whether or not your assets need replacement.

Is that worn-out printer ready to call it a day? Is the furniture in your office or business suitable for exhibit in a thrift store? If that’s the case, consider looking at some of your less-than-stellar assets.

Examine the performance and use of your equipment and other assets, since end-of-year sales are approaching.

4. Discard any advertising materials that are no longer relevant.

Do you have any boxes of posters, flyers, brochures, or vouchers that are old or invalid?

My wife, who runs a small company, recently discovered piles of old business cards and informative pamphlets with out-of-date data and images. Instead of taking up a whole drawer in her workplace and perhaps frustrating and confusing clients, those paper goods are now helping to warm our home through our fireplace.

Examine your advertising materials to determine whether they are still relevant. Consider the following questions:

  • Is there an error in the contact information?
  • Is the logo or picture incompatible with my existing brand?
  • Is it displaying a group that is no longer affiliated with my business?
  • Are there any dates that have passed their expiration date?
  • Is the overall design a little dated?

If you responded yes to any of these questions, it’s time to toss out your out-of-date promotional material.

5. Take off your clothes

We all have those worn-in sweatpants or dependable old work polos, but when was the last time you updated your wardrobe?

If you have a shirt or tie that hasn’t seen an eight-hour workday in the past year, it may be time to find a new home for it.

“Dresse for the job you desire, not the job you have,” as the saying goes. The same may be said of your company. Since you began your company, the image of your sector has most likely evolved, and fashion is a representation of a career.

You may be a busy entrepreneur who hasn’t given much thought to what you’re wearing. Fortunately, the fashion industry took notice. Banana Republic launched a fashion line for businesses earlier this year, while The Limited specializes on professional clothes for women.

Wearing the right clothing to work may help you achieve the mood you desire and convey the message you want to express.
