Mama Rose started her business in 2012 after a long and difficult struggle with infertility and getting pregnant. After years of research, she created an all-natural line that offers wholesome ingredients inspired by traditional family recipes. She has now become the president of Mama Rose’s Natural Baby Store
Mama Rose is a woman who has been running her own business for over 30 years. She started her company with the intention of making natural products that would help people and their families. Mama Rose’s Naturals is a company that specializes in organic, vegan, cruelty-free skin care and more.
Francesca (the infant on the right) is doing well today, according to her mother, Rosetta Thuresson (also on the right). But, thank heavens, that is no longer the case. RSV, which Rosetta describes as “a terrible illness that affects the respiratory system,” struck her when she was three months old, four years ago.
Francesca’s immune system and lungs were not yet matured enough to fight off such a virus, which resulted in a week in the hospital, many months of agony, and an excruciatingly slow recovery. Francesca not only had to heal from the virus’s pneumonia, ear infections, and sinus infection, but she also had to recover from the very powerful medicines that had been given to her in a stomach that had previously only known mama’s milk. The stressful event caused stomach problems, lactose intolerance, and the risk of developing asthma, allergies, and other long-term consequences. [ed note: this is a quote from the website]
Thuresson left her job as a social worker to research herbal treatments, take courses, study, and experiment her way to a herbal medicine diploma and, along the way, a business. She came to speak with my students today about how she established Mama Rose’s Naturals. It’s an interesting tale. She mentioned it to my Starting a Business class the day before yesterday.
Have you seen the film Lorenzo’s Oil? It’s about parents who refuse to accept their child’s medical issues or the physicians’ explanations to those problems, and who end up finding solutions on their own. The tale of Rosetta reminds me of the film.
There was no business strategy, and no money was available. However, there was a concept, a set of principles, conviction, and, most importantly, a great deal of effort.
After huge doses of powerful steroids and antibiotics, she started studying herbal treatments and methods to rebuild Francesca’s flora and fauna. She started attending herbal medicine lessons at local herbal stores and enrolled in herbal medicine courses. Rosetta also observed that all of the baby-care items she came across were unsuitable for a healing child’s requirements. Even those claiming to be natural had a long list of unfamiliar substances. It seemed obvious that if skin could absorb the amazing advantages of herbs used to cure and calm the body and soul, it could also absorb the chemicals contained in commercial skin care products. Rosetta continued her studies and started producing herbal teas, soaps, salves, and lotions for Francesca’s family.
Her creations were well received by her family. It was well received by friends. And the concept developed over time. She simply laughed and rolled her eyes when I inquired about financing. No, it’s not true. Here’s what she has to say about it on her website:
Rosetta chose to leave her day job after a few months to concentrate on her daughter and the creation and growth of her new kid, Mama Rose’s Naturals.
Thuresson packed and wrapped her products–and Francesca–and hit the road, regardless of whether she had a business strategy or financing. She visited shops for almost a year, demonstrating goods and collecting orders. She also enrolled in a class at the local Small Business Development Center, sought legal advice from the University of Oregon Law School, and hired a graphic designer to create branding, labels, and packaging.
Funding? She grinned again as she rolled her eyes. Credit cards are accepted.
She didn’t make it seem simple. She seemed pleased with the outcome. Mama Rose’s Naturals currently has a well-established brand, a hard-won distribution channel via health food shops and natural foods distributors, and a retail presence in Eugene, Oregon.
“It’s fantastic. I have someplace to combine the items other than my kitchen. My daughter is welcome to spend time with us.”
She also has the duties of a rapidly expanding company. The website must be maintained, and the shop must remain open during normal business hours. She has people working for her. In a nutshell, she’s up and running.
Finally, here’s some additional information from the website:
